MerchantWire SMSMerchantWire SMS Country Guide
Australia SMS setup
Official country setup guidance from the MerchantWire SMS app documentation.
Australia scope
Select Australia under Settings → General before choosing the Twilio Messaging Service. MerchantWire SMS uses one domestic Australian two-way numeric sender so customers can reply to order texts.
Sender requirements
- Use one Australian SMS-capable long-code number in the selected Messaging Service.
- MerchantWire rejects alphanumeric sender IDs because they are one-way and cannot support MerchantWire reply handling.
- MerchantWire rejects short codes in this release.
- Twilio currently supports domestic Australian long-code SMS and two-way SMS.
Twilio also requires Australian alphanumeric sender IDs to be registered, but that path is outside MerchantWire SMS.
Customer consent and identification
MerchantWire uses an affirmative, unchecked cart opt-in. Transactional messages can include the Shopify business name at the beginning of the message. Keep that identity setting enabled for customer clarity and review the current Australian requirements for your use case.
STOP, START, and HELP
Keep Twilio Advanced Opt-Out enabled and configure the automatic replies using the customer-facing store identity and support contact. Run the MerchantWire STOP → START → HELP verification before activation.
Australia checklist
- Australia is selected in Settings → General.
- The selected Messaging Service contains exactly one supported Australian SMS-capable long code.
- No Alpha Sender ID or short code is present in the Messaging Service.
- Business-name message identity is enabled.
- Text Messaging Policies were reviewed after selecting Australia.
- Customer Text Consent is active.
- Secure connection verification passes.
- STOP / START / HELP verification passes.
- A test SMS reaches an Australian phone you control.
