MerchantWire SMS Country Guide

United States SMS setup

Official country setup guidance from the MerchantWire SMS app documentation.

Select United States under Settings → General before connecting Twilio. MerchantWire SMS uses one two-way numeric sender so customers can reply to order texts.

Supported sender setup

Use one U.S. local 10-digit number with approved A2P 10DLC registration, or one verified North American toll-free number.

  • U.S. local 10-digit number: complete the applicable A2P 10DLC business/brand and campaign registration before production sending.
  • Toll-free: complete Twilio toll-free verification before production SMS to the United States or Canada.
  • Short code: supported by Twilio in the United States, but not supported by MerchantWire SMS in this release.
  • Alphanumeric Sender ID: not used by MerchantWire SMS because the app requires a two-way numeric reply path.

Add only the sender you intend MerchantWire SMS to use to the selected Messaging Service.

Customer consent

MerchantWire uses an affirmative, unchecked cart opt-in for order text updates. A phone number by itself is not treated as SMS consent, and customers must be able to complete checkout without choosing text updates.

Keep the store identity, messaging purpose, frequency/rates disclosure, STOP/HELP instructions, and policy links consistent with the messaging program you register with Twilio.

STOP, START, and HELP

Twilio Advanced Opt-Out must remain enabled.

  • keep STOP in the opt-out group;
  • keep START in the opt-in group;
  • keep HELP in the help group; and
  • review the automatic replies before activation.

Run the MerchantWire STOP → START → HELP verification from a phone you control before activation.

U.S. and Canada routing

The United States country configuration permits destinations in the United States and Canada.

A U.S. local 10-digit sender still follows U.S. A2P 10DLC requirements. A North American toll-free sender must complete toll-free verification for production SMS.

Final United States checklist

  • United States is selected in Settings → General.
  • The Messaging Service contains exactly one supported two-way numeric sender.
  • A2P 10DLC registration is approved for a U.S. local 10-digit sender, or toll-free verification is approved for a toll-free sender.
  • Text Messaging Policies were reviewed after confirming the U.S. configuration.
  • Customer Text Consent is active on the published Shopify theme.
  • Advanced Opt-Out is enabled.
  • STOP / START / HELP verification passes.
  • A test SMS reaches a phone you control.
