MerchantWire SMS Docs
Getting Started
Set up MerchantWire SMS in the same order the app presents the readiness checklist.
1. Open MerchantWire SMS from Shopify Admin. Keep the app embedded in Shopify; there is no separate MerchantWire login.
2. Review your Shopify subscription. Public billing is handled by Shopify App Pricing. Twilio usage is billed separately by Twilio.
3. Connect Twilio. Use your Twilio Account SID plus a Standard API Key SID and secret. Do not use your master Auth Token as the normal connection method.
4. Choose the Messaging Service. MerchantWire verifies that the service has one supported two-way numeric sender for the selected messaging country and checks the required reply/security configuration.
5. Review Text Messaging Policies. MerchantWire proposes the SMS-related policy additions. Review them for your business before publishing.
6. Enable Customer Text Consent. Open the Shopify theme editor from MerchantWire, enable the MerchantWire app embed on the published theme, save, and verify the cart on desktop and mobile.
7. Review Messages. MerchantWire includes ready-made transactional templates. Review wording, available order details, and timing before activation.
8. Run the Twilio checks. Send a test and complete STOP, START and HELP verification using a controlled handset.
9. Turn on order texts. Activation remains separate from setup. Only turn on live order texts after subscription, consent, policies, Twilio readiness and message review are complete.
Important boundaries
- MerchantWire SMS is for transactional/order-status messaging in this release, not marketing campaigns.
- New storefront consent is an affirmative choice and is not preselected for a new customer.
- Guest consent applies to that order; identified-customer consent may be saved to the Shopify customer record.
- MerchantWire does not require you to create templates from scratch.
